Guest post by Joe O'campo from BCIT's New Media program who interned last month in FCV's design team.
FCV is an interactive agency that focuses on strategic design to help clients increase profit. This is not just any ordinary agency. Their client list includes companies such as Nike, Save-on-Foods, Canadian Tourism Commission, TransLink, Scotiabank, Expedia.ca and TEDx.
FCV has earned many awards and I had the opportunity and privilege of working with them as a design intern. At first, I didn’t know what to expect, as this was my first taste of working for a creative firm, let alone a big company such as this one.
Everything happened so quickly. I barely had a chance to settle in to my desk when I was asked to join a team for a quick meeting. This was a great experience for me and I was excited to be included in this process so early in my practicum. In the meeting we discussed and critiqued designs, which continued regularly throughout my internship. Even though I had just started, I was already asked for my input and feedback. Meetings such as these ones occurred regularly at FCV.
The next few weeks I saw myself involved in working with many projects such as the FCV Blog, Langara Fishing website, TEDxVancouver, Canadian Tourism Commission and Travel Yukon. All of these projects used either Drupal or Wordpress so I learned a lot about both systems and how to make them both render properly across various desktop and mobile devices. Working with the design, UX, project management and development teams also gave me insight into what it takes to build these complex solutions.
My time here at FCV has been exceptional and more than I could possibly ask for. Not only did I get to see the process of making successful websites, but I also got to experience working with such a great team.
