Spirit of Vancouver
Spirit of Vancouver
Spirit of Vancouver is a Vancouver Board of Trade initiative championing community well-being. It has been involved in saving the HSBC Celebration of Light, rallying to keep the Indy, encouraging support for the development of the Canada Line as well as keeping the Olympic spirit alive and inviting community collaboration on events which give the city of Vancouver its cultural identity.
The Spirit of Vancouver needed to be able aggregate the goings-on across the city, filter relevant information to their subscriber segments and to use technology to save them time in fielding telephone calls, RSVPs and writing event advertisements.
FCV put together profiles of the site’s visitors and aligned corporate data to complement their online experience. The site uses a content management system which supports multiple content submissions, so that the general public can easily create content that is shared amongst all visitors to the site. The platform also supports advertisements, event creation and a calendar for ease of use amongst its visitors.
To leverage additional ‘spirit’ in Vancouver toward the end of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, the Vancouver Board of Trade began a campaign to encourage discussion around what the ‘Spirit of Vancouver’ means to residents. Members can:
- upload their Vancouver photos
- describe what Vancouver means to them
- vote on entries
- share posts with their social networks
- filter previous entries to view the most popular, recently added and featured posts
- be in the running to win a monthly prize.
The content management system supports multiple contributors and lets the Spirit of Vancouver be created, defined and shared by Vancouverites themselves.
The site is moderated by The Vancouver Board of Trade. The people who use it are able to share and create content themselves and reach cross-segments of the community, without going through the site owners. The Vancouver Board of Trade members, community partners, media, and the general public are all able to access relevant and topical updates about what is happening in their city. Through the Spirit of Vancouver contest, The Board of Trade are able to keep in touch with what Vancouver means to the individuals within the community.
